Day 1 in the Mekong Delta!

After yesterday's travelling it was so nice to have our first day exploring Vietnam! Broken air conditioning in our hotel room meant that we weren't able to get the great night's sleep we were hoping for but waking up at 7am was fine! After a lovely brekkie we met up with our coach tour for two days down to the Mekong Delta.

The more time you spend on the roads in Vietnam the more you realise how glad you are to being driven around. The general rules of the road don't really apply here and it's every man for himself when it comes to scooter v car v tuc tuc! We arrived at the Mekong Delta and were straight onto water taxis between the islands. The main aim of the day seemed to be eating as much local fruit as possible. We had jack fruit, litchis, dragon fruit and many others along with local teas and a local drink made of honey, kumquats and spiced tea.
For lunch we stopped at a local restaurant after taking a small boat upstream. Here we sampled a number of local dishes. Gurami fish with pineapple, cucumber and noodles in a rice paper wrap was a highlight. We also had banana fritters, and some lovely spring rolls all washed down with some local beer.

Tonight we're sleeping at a homestay and are very much looking forward to being taught how to make spring rolls. Met some lovely Australians in our group who have emailed across loads of info for our stay in Oz later in the trip. V.hot atm so hoping it cools down later on, air conditioning is a rusty looking fan!
